| 7. Combined Acidosis. A teen-age male has been driving while intoxicated and is admitted to the emergency room unconscious following a road traffic accident. He is shocked and has multiple injuries including broken ribs and crushed legs. The crushed ischemic tissue is causing the metabolic acidosis and the broken ribs are limiting ventilation and causing the respiratory acidosis. |
